There was a slight hold-up in receiving my awning since I live on the coast in Hastings, but the team showed up, and I gotta say, it was totally worth it. They installed it with great attention to detail and checked in to see if I was satisfied with where it was placed. Plus, they tidied up afterward, leaving my garden looking pristine, which I really appreciate. The awning itself is fantastic, well-constructed, and I’m hoping it’ll bring me joy for many years to come.

We placed our order through Costco, and even though it took a couple of months, we’re really thrilled with our 6m x 3.5m awning. The quality is top-notch and has made our outdoor area way more usable, even in the rainy, wet weather of Glasgow.

We placed our order for the Goss Shading Sublimate at CostCo on November 23, 2020. After a site visit, we finalized the design for our retractable, lit pergola measuring 6m wide by 3.5m projection on December 23rd. There were several email follow-ups, and the project finally arrived on site on May 4, 2021. This was 8 weeks later than we were initially told, but hey, we get it—pandemic challenges are real for everyone. As part of the project, we also had a new patio terrace put in, where the pergola would be set up.

The installation faced a bunch of hiccups: attaching the wall brackets took longer than expected, and we were told, "If it doesn't work, we’ll redesign and swap the brackets for two metal posts." I still wonder why that wasn’t the original plan. Eventually, the brackets were installed correctly, and the installation moved forward.

However, a major issue popped up once the whole structure was up. I had ordered a pergola with a 3.5m projection from the house, but due to the bracket design, it actually extends just over 3.9m. While that might be fine for some folks, it messed with our terrace design since the front legs ended up 40cm further out than we intended. After a bit of a tense chat with Mr. Serkan, we decided to let them finish the installation and just deal with it. He offered to redesign the structure and have it remade in Turkey to match the original 3.5m projection. While that was a nice offer, we had already waited 5 months, and we were told it would take "a few months" more to get the new one made and installed, so we passed on that.

As I write this, the Goss Shading crew has spent 4 days on site—one of those just to drop off their tools (which are quite impressive) and the pergola parts. The installation also ran into issues with where the electrical sockets for the motor and lights were placed. They provided a marked-up photo showing where the sockets should go, and we had them installed (Goss Shading doesn’t handle the electrical work, just the connecting cables). But once they got there, they said the sockets were in the wrong spots and suggested I have my electrician move them.

I expressed my frustration about these problems, and they told me the installation would wrap up on Monday, weather permitting. For a company that builds outdoor structures, that’s a bit puzzling. I even suggested a pop-up awning to keep things moving while it rained. As I write, it’s pouring, and I’m waiting for the Goss team to show up (they usually arrive between 10:30 and 11:00 am) since their office in Manchester is a half-hour drive away. I’ll update this review once everything is finished.

**Update After Installation Completion:** On day 4, the installation team got there early and worked a full 8-hour day, making significant progress. We ended up with a functioning pergola that has a retractable roof and working lights. A few finishing touches were left to do, which took 2 days to gather materials. The final day of work went well, with just some minor tasks left once a last piece of capping arrives from Turkey. While we still wish the projection matched our order, the pergola seems well-made and sturdy. The delays and issues with the projection dimensions are annoying, but we’re starting to appreciate the benefits it brings during this rainy spring, letting us enjoy our outdoor space more.

It's been over two years since Goss put in our pergola (Serkan was our main guy and he did a stellar job). Right from the start, we were blown away by the build quality and all the parts, like the electric roof with adjustable lighting, the design, and the drainage system. Our bi-fold doors from the living room provide direct and level access to the decking and the pergola. Thanks to the electric roof and wall-mounted infrared heaters, we've been using it all year round. During the pandemic, it became a lifesaver, allowing me to host 'covid safe' business meetings thanks to the pergola. The service from Goss has been top-notch, and I wouldn't think twice about recommending this company. Big thanks!

Had some trouble with the product right from the get-go, and I'm still hanging tight for a fix - no reply to my email. Initially gave it a 1-star rating.

Update:
The product was first set up in June 2020, and we flagged a problem to GOSS during the install. They swapped out the awning in December 2021, and it's working now. I've bumped my rating up to 3 stars.

A couple of hiccups that held me back from giving a perfect 5-star review were handled by the outstanding customer support and after-sales care. Overall, we’re really pleased with the items we bought.

I got the system set up several months back. I'm still waiting on the wind sensor that I already paid for. There's a rebate for the damage on the canopy and a long list of things that need to be wrapped up. I keep receiving emails, but there's no resolution in sight.

We got ourselves a retractable awning installed over our patio so we can enjoy it all year long. Goss kept us in the loop during the whole ordering process, and the installation was done just how we wanted it. Awesome service, much appreciated!
